Some time early last year, splatterpunk editor extraordinaire Jack Bantry reached out and asked me for a story for his next issue of Splatterpunk Zine. As I often do when invited to contribute to an anthology or magazine, I asked my wifey to come up with a few short story titles to help spark an idea.
If I remember correctly, one of the titles she came up with was “The Roots of Evil.” This story grew from that title idea. I eventually renamed it “The Screaming Tree,” because it’s simply a badass title. It’s also one of my favorite stories ever!
Here’s a loose synopsis that doesn’t give anything away: As impending death approaches, Frank Waters has a story to share about the evil growing in Twin Oaks, Texas. But these wicked roots stretch further than Frank understands, and the screaming tree is more powerful than he can imagine.
If you’d like to read the ebook for a buck, it’s on Godless.
If you’d like this limited run chapbook, along with a cool bookmark and sticker, it’s on my Etsy page, PC3Books. There were only 100 printed and I’ve already sold quite a few, so get it while you can!
I ordered the book and also a t-shirt while I was at it. Looking forward to both
