In case y’all didn’t know, aside from being a horror author and a dude who writes kickass movie reviews, I’m also a freelance editor. As of 2021 and 2022, I’ve become quite the prolific editor within the horror community.
I was the editor-in-chief of Death’s Head Press for four years. In that role, I edited a fair amount of books, but I was more of a content editor than anything else, preferring to outsource the actual editing to other individuals. But since leaving DHP, and even before I left, editing for others became more and more what I do.
Honestly, I never saw myself in this role. I even mused once to a friend that I was waaaay too slow of a reader to be an editor; it would simply take me too long to finish a manuscript. But, as it turns out, I think my slow reading is what makes me good at it. There’s absolutely no skimming here! I read—and actually say in my head—every single word, which I believe helps me catch mistakes all the more easily. That’s not to say I don’t miss things from time to time. I reckon there isn’t an editor on the planet with a perfect record. But I’d like to think I’m pretty damn good.
And I’m proud to say I’ve edited some fuckin awesome books. I’ve edited all the books you see below, and more. Click on any that look interesting to be swooshed away to Amazon, where you can buy it, if you so desire.
That’s just a small sampling of what I’ve edited over the last few years. I’ve also edited some nonfiction works, including an upcoming book by musical artist Crywolf (Justin Taylor Phillips).
Other books I’ve had the pleasure of working on that have yet to be released include a couple of crime thrillers by Chris Miller, a collection of extreme horror by Robert Essig, an excellent novella by Mark Towse, and an equally impressive novella by Joe Scipione. Currently, I’m working on Daniel Volpe’s next release, which, I promise, is going to arouse you and disgust you in equal measure. After that, I’ve got a fantasy novel to tackle!
I’m an author first, definitely. (I mean, after being a father and husband and all that, obviously!) But I’m also an editor, and I love it. If you are an author in need of someone to review your manuscript, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at pc3@pc3horror.com or message me on Facebook.
Many thanks to my clients, especially D&T Publishing, Fedowar Press, Aron Beauregard, and Daniel Volpe, who have all kindly brought me multiple works. I couldn’t keep doing this without y’all!
